September
Welcome back
I look forward to meeting all of the parents at the Open House on Thursday, September 13 from 4:30 - 6:00. If you are unable to make the evening, please do not hesitate to call the school and leave me a message if you have any questions or concerns.
All of the grade six students will gather on Wednesday morning to set up Ambassadors, Announcements, Kindergarten helpers and Office Helpers. We will also discuss WE DAY through the Free the Children organization. This year's We Day will take in November at the Canadian Tire Center. Seating is limited, so not every grade six student will be attending. Approximately 20 students attended We day last year with two teacher supervisors.
In addition, we are excited that the Carp Fair will be occurring in our community! If your child will be attending the fair, and missing school on Friday, September 21, please let me know by using the agenda for communication or contacting the office prior to the day of the fair. Many thanks!
If your child is interested in entering an art project for grade six, they have three choices. They can choose to do all of the below, or one of the below. This activity is NOT mandatory.
1. A poster with emphasis on Anti-bullying in the school. You should use a 1/2 piece of bristle board.
2. Make a model of early flight structure. ( hot air balloon, plane, kite etc.)
3. Create a split picture. Use a 5x7 photo of yourself. Cut it in half and recreate the missing half on an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper. The picture of yourself may be a photocopy.
The art pieces should be brought into the school by Tuesday, September 18 in order to be labelled and delivered to the fair.
Below, you will find the curriculum document links for Math, Language, Science, Religion and Health. As you know, the Health document has been revised. When it is available online, please feel free to investigate it. Please acquaint yourselves with the documents. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call.

I'm looking forward to communicating with parents via Twitter and Google Remind rather than newsletters. This website will only be updated twice per term. You will find all important upcoming dates and any other information you may need in order to make your child's year a successful one by following Twitter or signing up for Google Remind.
Please follow me and your child's classroom by using twitter. All you have to do is log in to twitter and request to follow @msjacka6 - easy.
I look forward to working closely with you and getting to know your child. You are your child’s first teacher and together we can help your child meet the Provincial expectations for this year. Our emphasis with students is that effort is more important than ability in achieving success and that a student’s “job” is to work hard and to try his/her best.
Encourage your child to discuss what has gone on at school each day. Set aside some time each evening to complete any required homework. Students will be assigned various projects throughout the year. Time management is an important skill to acquire during this year in preparation for grade 7. Encourage your child to work on assignments when they are received and not leave things until the last minute.
During the first months of the school year, I will be checking/signing the students’ agendas every Friday and I ask you to do the same. Please use the agenda as a tool for communication between home and school as well. One of our many goals this year is to develop independence and organizational skills of each student and prepare each child for grade seven.
Looking forward:
The leave taking ceremony takes place during the final week of school in June. There are many awards available to students to earn through their hard work during the year. These awards include:
